Bitburger Open GP Gold: Anup Sridhar sends Brice Leverdez packing in Men’s Singles second round
India’s experienced shuttler Anup Sridhar defied all odds and penetrated into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating his higher ranked challenger Brice Leverdez of France in second round battle at the Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, October 31,
in Germany.
The impressive Indian shuttler, who is un-seeded in the main draw of the tournament, played with tremendous precision and managed to finish up the contest in a convincing fashion by consuming 30 minutes on court.
After a prolonged time for almost one year, Indian shuttler was in superb shape on court as he played with impressive precision and managed to overpower his French opponent with a respectable total on the board.
The 10th seeded Leverdez, on the other hand, could not prove his worth on court as he failed to play positive in opening set.
However, French shuttler played well in the second game but not enough to stop Anup from ending up the match in straight sets.
The impressive speed and accurate play of Anup assisted him to take charge of the affairs from starting points of the first set and he managed to create pressure on his higher ranked challenger.
Anup proved that he has obtained top quality skills as he played flawless badminton and eventually took a strong lead on score board.
The in-form Anup proceeded with a stunning speed in the starting half and remained in lead on board until the interval.
In the meanwhile, Leverdez tried his best to play attacking badminton but failed to take charge of the game and remained struggling.
Nevertheless, Anup was very calm and composed on court, showing no sign of confusion and ended up the opening game with a comfortable difference of 21-15.
Leverdez tried his best to play smart badminton in starting half of second set and remained successful in staying close to his challenger.
Anup geared up his speed in all areas of the court but failed to put up strong show until the one-minute break.
After the break, both men played at the same speed and reached at 22-22 when Anup played better badminton and remained successful in securing the set with a tight margin of 24-22.
The lower ranked Anup stamped his mark over Leverdez by beating him in straight games with a reasonable 21-15 and 24-22 score on the board.
