Bitburger Open GP Gold: Olga Konon sends Michelle Chan Ky packing in Women’s Singles round-of-16
Germany’s emerging player Olga Konon cheered her home fans by reaching in Women’s Singles quarter-final after crushing New Zealand’s Michelle Chan Ky in round-of-16 match at the Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012 on Thursday, November 1, at Saarbrucken, Germany.
The in-form Konon, who is un-seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, played with remarkable aggression and managed to send her higher ranked rival packing while consuming just 25 minutes on court.
German shuttler was on a different level as she responded to her home fans in a positive fashion by playing to her best potential and easily registered a comprehensive victory over Michelle in straight games with a huge difference on score board.
On the contrary, the sixth seeded Michelle was unable to cope up with the incredible speed and passionate play of her local challenger and eventually lost this pre-quarter-final clash in straight games without even getting close.
It was an interesting fight in the start of first game when Konon showed attacking display of her craft in the arena and created pressure on her higher ranked opponent.
Konon showed that she has obtained top quality skills by playing attacking and positive badminton and got a strong position on court at the opening rallies.
The impressive German shuttler did not show any sign of confusion in her play as she remained in complete command of rallies until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, the confused Michelle failed to find a good flow as she lost her focus in the arena and remained far behind her rival.
Konon was very calm and composed in the arena and ended up the first game quite easily with a superb 21-14 margin on the score board.
In the following game, the spirited Konon played with reasonable speed and left no chance for Michelle to get back on track.
In the meanwhile, Konon was at her best and did not face any problem in setting up an amazing gap until the end of first half.
In the concluding part, Konon stayed composed in the arena and showed no mercy to her rival in finishing up the set with a stunning margin of 21-8.
The impressive German lady easily won this round-of-16 clash in just 25 minutes with a phenomenal 21-14 and 21-8 score on the board.
