Biting Tiel - HELP?

My bird pepper has freaked out ever since we turned on the cieling fan last week. This change was instant from the very second the fan blades started to move.He has seen it on all last summer and the one before so why it is bothering him so badly now I don't know. All he does now if let out is fly from the chain that hangs near the fan to the book shelf on the other side of the fan and he will do this for HOURS unend if allowed. I can't get near him any more all he wants to do is bite and hard. Biting is not part of his normal behavior at all and he is normally cuddly and sweet which makes this so much more upsetting. He used to like to TRY to sit up on the still blades even though he is not allowed and was shooed off asap could this be a teritory thing? I now have sevral bites that have actually made me bleed and I am running out of band-aids so this can not continue.

  1. Sounds like he’s a bit spooked!! My cockatiel went through a bitting phase and we found spitting on our fingers deterred him. Another thing that sounds painful but works is to just ignore him. When they work out that biting doesn’t get them any attention they tend to stop. I suggest you take his cage out of the room with the fan for the next few days let him recover and get back to normal then slowly integrate him a few hours a day back into the room with the fan. He's had a bad experience and no longer feels safe there. He just needs time to get used to it again.

    Hope this helps
