Question:

Bitten by a spider. Should I worry?

I live in the UK. I was cleaning my parents shed and I had a very large spider land on my hand and as I flinched I accidentally knocked it onto my face and it bit me on the neck.

It's really big and light brown and furry with a black pattern of spots on its body.

Should I be worried or not?

The body is the size of a peanut. It is very big but I guess its a garden spider as they tend to be bigger don't they?

thanks in advance.

No real problems other than redness and swelling around the bite area.

  1. Native British spiders aren't dangerous but if it was an unusually large spider, it may be an 'immigrant'.

Perhaps you should look up images of spiders and see if you can identify it. If you know the species you'll be able to find out whether it's dangerous or not.

Probably it isn't, it was most likely just a garden spider, but it's always good to check.

  2. you shouldn't worry about it there are no poisonus

spiders in the uk. the live in warmer climates

  4. i've seen some really nasty spider bites and if its

swelling up you should probably go see a doctor.

  5. Normal garden spiders don't bite. Especially in the UK. Go to the doctors and get it checked out. It's better to be safe than sorry. Maybe get some people round to take a look around your shed for the spider. It may be reproducing and then there'll be lots of biting spiders.

  6. I think you should go check with the doctor, garden spiders dont bite.

If your lip is tingling and you have swelling and redness; you should definetly talk to the doctor.

    Better safe then sorry

    Hopefully this helps.

  7. Tell someone who can keep an eye on you, and call a hospital.

  8. I just got bit by a Garter Snake, I just washed out the bite and I'm still alive, but I'd go to the Doc's, ask your parents.

  9. It's a garden spider.  The sting is not poisonous although some people are allergic to them.  If the swelling hasn't gone down in the morning, go and see the doctor and he'll give you an anti-histamine jab.

  10. I really think you should at least phone the out of hours line or something because when i saw a spider like that in the garden a doctor friend of mine said it was lucky it didn't bite any of us, not to worry you, it could be fine but i would get it checked out because these things can be alot more serious than they look.

If you don't phone them then please go see a GP tomorrow.

  11. I'd say its harmless but put some tcp on it or something.... if your really worried maybe just pop into a chemist and ask them

  13. Sounds like a house spider, no problem, just an itch like a flea bite for a while.

  14. You should go to the dr, just incase.

  15. Judging from the description and the fact that you posted this question about 8 minutes ago I would say only for about another 12 minutes (if you're lucky)........
