Bitter sweet for McGinley at the BMW International Open, the 45-year-old looking for a win after 7 years!
Paul McGinley is trying very hard to ignore the last seven years of misery and is hoping to overcome all of that with a win at the BMW International Open.
It has been seven painful years since we last saw McGinley lifting a trophy. It was the 2005 Volvo Masters where the Irishman saw victory and after that, his career has been in shambles.
His play in the International Open saw a new and refined McGinley who avoided slip-ups and was keen on error-free golf. His precision and aggressive stroke plays were the traits that lead him to get an impressive score at the end of the day.
It will be a decisive tournament for the 45-year-old and will decide his future. He is at the age where small decisions matter in a big manner.
On the other hand, the BMW International Open saw disappointment in the face of Martin Kaymer. The local favourite missed the cut early in the tournament and gave the worst performance of his entire career.
Another misery that the BMW International Open observed was the Spanish maestro Sergio Garcia. This guy has been a little too careless about his majors’ record and is acting like a minor these days. His interview past week was as hilarious as Jerry Lewis.
“If I don't have a major, what can I do, I'm not going to take my life because I don't win a major. Fortunately I have a lot of other things that maybe some of those guys who have won majors don't have,” said the Spanish golfer.
He added more notes to his funny orchestra and even the media felt weird about what the Spanish said.
“Many things, many friends, many other hobbies that make me happy, so you know, some guys need to win a major, some guys don't,” said Garcia.
For McGinley, the start to the International Open has been tough, but the 45-year-old is dealing with it just fine.
“It was much tougher - a real good test of golf, you had to work the ball and it's very important to keep it on the fairways,” said McGinley.
It is a key point in the Irishman’s life as a golfer. The BMW International Open will either make or break him as a golfer.
