The former Bayern Munich left back has advised his former employers to try scoring at least one goal in their second-leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The former Bayern Munich defender, Bixente Lizarazu, has revealed that the Reds will need to score against Real Madrid in the second-leg if they want to progress to the final of the Champions League. He was talking in the wake
of Bayern’s 2-1 win over Los Blancos in the first-leg of their last-four tie played at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, April 17.
Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez scored goals for the hosts while Mesut Ozil bagged an important away goal for The Whites. He admitted that Bayern were determined in the first-leg and deserved to win but warned them against any complacency
prior to going into the second-leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, April 25.
Lizarazu mused that an away goal from Ozil could prove to be vital in the end and therefore the Munich giants must try scoring an away goal themselves to blossom their chances of playing the final at the Allianz Arena next month.
He claimed that Bayern can never maintain a clean sheet at the Bernabeu if they plan to defend all the way against a threatening Madrid outfit.
While talking to sports publication, Kicker, the former player stated: "The away goal certainly helps Real. Munich will need a goal in Madrid. Otherwise they will not progress. To simply defend will not be enough against these
Real forwards, although they did disappoint me in Munich.”
The 42-year-old mentioned that Bayern will need to stay on their toes in the second-leg and should be as determined and focussed as they were while playing the first-leg at home. He also ruled out Bayern’s superiority despite their
win in the previous leg and repeatedly insisted to attack in order to have any chance of upsetting Los Blancos.
"But Bayern will only have a chance on Wednesday if they are are just as determined, willing, and organised [as they were in the first leg]. Bayern have to be ready for a big fight and a fantastic defensive performance,” Lizarazu
concluded.
Bayern will next be in action against Werder Bremen on Saturday, April 21, before meeting Madrid for the second-leg of their semi-final tie next week.
