Bizarre Cricket Dismissals – Part 2
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383
Inzamam, with his fairly long career is listed twice for the most bizarre dismissals. In a rare One Day series against rivals India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 required 40 runs to win from 41 balls and five wickets remaining. On batting friendly
conditions, and with Inzamam at the crease, it seemed an easy task. Inzamam hit the ball to Suresh Raina deployed at covers. He picked the ball and threw it towards the striker’s end, where Inzamam was out of his crease and blocked the incoming throw. The
Indians appealed, and Inzamam was given out for obstructing the field. This incident triggered a lot of controversy and India’s act was declared against the spirit of the game.
Shivnaraine Chanderpaul
In the West Indian first innings of the third Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in 2006, Runako Morton and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul were part of wacky run out. Chris Martin bowled to the right handed Morton who hit the ball to mid-on where
Daniel Vettori tumbled while fielding for it. For a run, Morton runs to the non-striker’s end and the non-striker himself, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul initially took a few steps to run but then doubled back to the non-striker’s end. Meanwhile Vettori passed the
ball to the keeper who chipped the bails off. Morton thought he was out, and fumingly walked back to the pavilion. However, the umpires on the field checked with the third umpire, and after watching the replays it was obvious that Morton grounded his bat at
the non-striker’s end just before the captain, Chanderpaul. So Morton who was meant to go was safe and came back while Chanderpaul had to leave.
Andrew Symonds
The Australian all-rounder has had many controversies in his cricketing career. Famous for his varied hairstyles and hard hitting batting approach, he was also part of a very unusual dismissal. Against Sri Lanka in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, during
a One Day match, he hit a straight shot off the spinner, Dilshan. This shot hit the bat of the non-striker batsman, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, deflecting onto his pads and then looping into the air to be caught by Vass fielding at mid-on. Symonds was given out and after
the dismissal, he had a lot to ‘say’ on his way back to the pavilion.
Kevin Pietersen
In a Test match between England and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the English team was cruising well, after an entertaining innings of 68. The done and dusted West Indian team had no hope on a flat batting track, however Bravo, full of energy
hit Pietersen’s helmet with a nasty bouncer. The pace on the ball helped dislodge the helmet and it fell onto the wickets. It was a dramatic delivery which left Pietersen in pain and shock. A couple of the West Indian fielders came to ask the batsman if he
was ok while all the others were busy celebrating the dismissal of a set batsman.
Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara, current captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, RP Singh bowled a full toss to the left handed batsman. The bat curled in his hand and popped out
of his grip. The bat was in the air for a moment or so, before it landed on the stumps. He was shocked for a while before he realized what had happened. Only wet gloves and sweaty palms were to be blamed as he was walking back and continuously looking at
the umpire to see if it was a no-ball or not. The dismissal was heartbreaking for the captain while the India team continued to celebrate, sensing a win.
