Bizouard prevails in round 5 of FIM Freestyle MX World Championships, Podmol takes out round 6
France’s Remi Bizouard successfully extended his overall lead in the 2012 International Motorcyclist Federation (FIM) Freestyle Motocross (MX) World Championships by topping the podium in Round 5 and taking runner-up place in Round 6 of the international
series that went down at Basel, Switzerland, this past weekend.
Finishing behind Bizouard in the fifth round on Friday was his fellow countryman Brize Izzo, while Switzerland’s Libor Podmol finished third to round out the podium.
The sixth round on Saturday saw Podmol walk away with top honours, while Bizouard had to settle for second place. France’s David Rinaldo completed the podium after finishing in third place.
Bizouard, a two-time FIM champion, completely stole the show during Friday’s contest by landing tricks such as a cliff-hanger flip, ruler flip, switchable flip and Hart attack flop. The outstanding performance earned a score of 405 from the judges, consequently
claiming victory.
Determined to get a two-for-two at Basel, the French rider pushed himself hard during the sixth round of the international series on Saturday. However, he was unable to take the win because of displaying a slight kink in the execution of his double-up.
"I made one mistake on the double-up, so I've got to focus on my riding, try to get better for the next round," Bizouard said on Saturday.
Podmol, the 2010 FIM Champion, remained the biggest standout during Round 6 of the 2012 FIM Freestyle MX World Championships. Putting together a run that featured massive combos such as the heel-clicker to Indian air back-flip double can-can back-flip, under-flip
indy and cliff-hanger to no-hander, before wrapping off the run with a huge whip-flip Indian air, the Swiss rider collected a score of 415 from the judges, the highest score of the weekend.
"It feels great, and I'm just very happy that I put it all together today: Yesterday I had mistakes and today when I went into quali I really was just telling myself, 'Oh, dude if you're going do mistakes again... I'm going to smash my head through the wall
or something,'" Podmol said, after Saturday's podium presentation. "I'm super happy. I'm stoked. I'm looking forward to our party, you know, and happy that it's all done,” said an ecstatic Podmol.
With his success on Saturday, Podmol moved closer to Bizouard on the overall series rankings.
The latest season of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championships will head to Munich, Germany, on April 28.
