Bjorkman/Woodbridge beat Ivanisevic/Krajicek in Invitation Doubles – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Swedish/Australian pair of Jonas Bjorkman and Todd Woodbridge defeated Croatian/Dutch team of Goran Ivanisevic and Richard Krajicek in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the gentlemen’s invitation doubles at the Wimbledon Championships
in London on Friday.
Bjorkman and Woodbridge broke their opponents in the second game of the opening set and held their serve in the next game to race to a 3-0 lead. The Swedish/Australian pair did not allow their opponents to break back, serving out
the set in the ninth game to win it 6-3.
Bjorkman and Woodbridge hit 79 percent of the first serves and a couple of aces in the first set. The Swedish/Australian pair smashed two winners and captured 69 percent of the first service points in the opening set. On the other
hand, Ivanisevic and Krajicek kept their first serve percentage at 53 percent and converted 80 percent of them into points in the first set. The Croatian/Dutch team hit two winners and committed only one unforced error in the opening set. Ivanisevic and Krajicek
had a better return conversion rate than their opponents as they bagged 33 percent of the receiving points in comparison to just 26 by their opponents. The Croatian/Dutch duo failed to save two of the three break points they faced and could not convert the
only break point they received on their opponents’ serve in the first set.
The Swedish/Australian pair was looking to finish the match quickly as they broke Ivanisevic and Krajicek in the opening game of the second set to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Croatian Dutch pair broke back immediately to square
off the score at 1-1. Bjorkman and Woodbridge broke again in the ninth game and capitalised on it to win the set 6-4.
The top seeds managed to deliver 79 percent of the first serves and clinched 61 percent of the points on them in the second set. Bjorkman and Woodbridge bagged 61 percent of the first service points and a whopping 83 percent of
the second service points in the second set. On the other hand, Ivanisevic and Krajicek fired two aces and 69 percent of the first serves, claiming 59 percent of the points on them.
The Croatian/Dutch team committed four unforced errors and the same number of double faults in the second set. Bjorkman and Woodbridge capitalised on two of the five break point opportunities they created on Ivanisevic and Krajicek’s
serve and saved one of the two break points on their own serve in the second set. The match lasted for 54 minutes.
