Bjorn, McIlroy and Westwood giving their best in Dubai
On Friday, after two rounds, Thomas Bjorn and Rory McIlroy were leading at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
With the exciting tournament of Pebble Beach of Professional Golf Association in the US, another European Tour event is in process in Dubai. Most of the world’s top ranked players are performing there and enjoying the lead.
Bjorn and McIlroy are the current leaders of the tournament. They scored 6 and 7-under par in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Stroking the same figures of 65 and 66 took them to the top position of the leaderboard.
"I was never really under any pressure early in the round. I just got off to a much better start today and made a couple of birdies early on," McIlroy said.
He continued, "And it was nice just to sort of pick up birdies along the way unlike yesterday when I had to light it up on the back nine to shoot a score".
On the other hand, Bjorn is also happy to see his name on the top of the list after a long time. Matching the scores with the world’s no. 2 ranked golfer is the most appealing factor for him.
"I played well all day. I played the golf course in a way that I want to play the golf course. And you know, there was nothing that stood out. I just played 18 solid holes of golf," said Bjorn.
Lee Westwood, currently world no. 3, scored 3 and 7-under par in the first and second rounds of the tournament, respectively.
He scored 11 impressive birdies and just one bogey in the two rounds. He is three strokes behind the leaders and trying to pace up his performance by recording more birdies.
Similarly, Martin Kaymer, another hot player in the field, is giving his best. He scored two eagles in the first and second rounds. His scoring on Friday was 11-under par and 10 birdies as well.
The upcoming two days are important for all the players. The tournament with $2.5 million prize will also motivate all the golfers on the course to improve their rankings in Race to Dubai.
The former winner Luke Donald is not in the tournament, but will be returning in the upcoming European Tour events to defend his Race to Dubai title.
