Bjorn Fratangelo, Nikola Milojevic enter 2nd round with easy wins – 2011 US Open Boys’ Singles
Number three seed Bjorn Fratangelo of United States cruised into the second round of 2011 US Open Boys’ Singles with a marvellous 6-1, 6-3 victory over Chilean Benjamin Ugarte on Sunday here at the City of New York.
Fratangelo looked in commanding form in his opening round match that lasted for only 56 minutes on court number 7 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre. The first set lasted for only 20 minutes as the American dashed
his formidable forehand winners both down the line and cross court. Under immense pressure, Ugarte lifted his spirits a bit in the following set but he couldn’t stop his opponent from earning a well deserved victory.
Fratangelo, who is competing in his first US Open tournament, displayed high quality tennis in both sets. He played very maturely as he created very difficult angles for the challenger from deep behind the baseline. His serve was
his real asset as he won all of his service games quite easily. His defence was rock solid and he did not allow Ugarte a sniff of a serve break.
The American, who is seeded third at the International Tennis Federation tournament, is certainly one of the favourites to claim the trophy. He can play all the shorts in the book and his ability to channel his energy wisely makes
him a serious contender for the US Open Junior’s title.
Fratangelo made a bright start to the match as he broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Consolidating, he executed his game plan to perfection as he raced to 5-1 lead in a very short time. Playing in a well
disguised shot, the American made two set points available to him and then converted the first one take 1-0 lead in the set score.
He took complete control of the match in the second set with an early break of serve. Although Ugarte restored some pride by clinching three of his service games, he proved no match for the American and the match ended in straight
sets.
In another match, Serbian tennis player Nikola Milojevic came back from a set deficit to floor Shane Vinsant of United States 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to enter the second round.
Making a number of double faults early on, Milojevic looked a bit out of sorts as the match started. However with a passage of time, he raised his game to a higher level and continuously forced errors from his opponent in the second
and third sets. On the other hand, Vinsant had his chances but he could not execute them well enough.
