Bjorn Fratangelo crushes Oliver Golding in the Boys' Singles quarterfinal – French Open 2011
American Bjorn Fratangelo thrashed fourth seed Oliver Golding of Great Britain in straight sets in the quarterfinals of boys’ single event at French Open, Roland Garros in Paris on Thursday. Fratangelo lost just two games in the
entire match, winning the contest 6-1, 6-1 in just 47 minutes.
The American was almost flawless in the opening set. He took the lead straightaway, breaking Golding in the first and third game and consolidating on them to race to a 4-0 lead. The British opened his account in the fifth game
as he held his serve, avoiding a bagel set. Fratangelo did not allow his opponent to claim another game, clinching two consecutive games and breaking Golding in the seventh game to win the set 6-1.
The American hit one ace and 52 percent of the first deliveries, sealing 64 percent of the points on them. On the other hand, Golding served better as he fired three aces and 57 percent of the first serves, converting 50 percent
of them into points. However, Golding failed to win any point on the second serve, losing all the nine second service points in the first set. Whereas, Fratangelo made the difference with his second serve as he won 69 percent of the points on them. The American
claimed an amazing 71 percent of the receiving points in the first set. The unseeded capitalised on three of the four break point opportunities he created and managed to save all the six break points he faced on his own serve in the opening set.
Just like the first set, Golding manage to hold just a single service game in the second set. Fratangelo broke the Brit in the second game and held his serve in the next game, blazing forward to a 3-0 lead. Golding held his serve
in the fourth game to reduce the American’s lead to 3-1. After that, Fratangelo captures three straight games, breaking the British in the sixth game to win the set 6-1.
The American delivered two aces and kept his first serve percentage at 77 percent, bagging 82 percent of the points on them. In comparison, Golding was poor with the serve, having a first serve percentage of just 38 percent and
winning 50 percent of the points on them. Fratangelo won 60 percent of the points on the second serve and converted an incredible 63 percent of the returns into points in the second set. The American utilised both break chances he created and saved all the
three break points he faced on his own serve. The 17-year-old won 27 out of 38 points in the second set.
The right-handed is slated to play Tristan Lamasine of France in the semi-finals. The French ousted German Robin Kern in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(6) in the quarterfinals.
