Bjorn Fratangelo downs Oliver Golding to advance into the Boys’ Singles semis – French Open 2011
American Bjorn Fratangelo barely sweat to cruise past fourth seeded British Oliver Golding to advance into the semi-finals of the Roland Garros 2011, second of the four Grand Slam event held in Paris, France on Thursday. He bagged
two breadsticks in just forty-seven minutes to stun the 18-year-old British boy.
The booming star, Fratangelo showed exceptional skills to slay the seeded British with double breadsticks at Stade Roland Garros. He barely faced any threat against Golding and wiped out the British to book a last four spot.
Ranked 1404th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Fratangelo bombarded at court seventeen as he reeled off the opener in twenty-five minutes after winning six games to one. He clobbered a slightly lower
first serve share of 52 percent as opposed to Golding’s 57 percent but registered an impressive 64 percent win on it. In addition to this, the American saved all six breakpoints faced through his amazing defensive skills and converted three out of four breakpoint
opportunities to his advantage to help clinch easily.
The American improved his winning ways into the final set and clobbered an awesome first serve share of 77 percent as compared to British boy’s 38 percent. He also earned a spectacular 82 percent win on it. To spice it further,
Fratangelo saved all three breakpoints conceded and converted both breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to seal the set by winning six games to one again in twenty-two minutes.
Fratangelo had an awesome run in this major clay court event. He just lost one set i.e. against Moldovan Maxim Dubarenco in the opening round match. He then trashed Canadian Filip Peliwo and upset eleventh seeded Belgian Joris
de Loore without losing a set to reach this spot.
Up next for the American super boy is the winner of the match between German Robin Kern and French wild card entrant Tristan Lamasine who are unseeded just like Fratangelo.
Other two players who will be joining the American in the last four spot is the Croat Mate Delic and fourteenth seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem.
