Black African selector to be appointed by Cricket South Africa – Cricket News update
With more than 80 percent of the population being black, South African cricket is often criticized for lack of fair representation. In order to better depict the country’s demographics, CSA (Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757) is likely to appoint a black selector in
furtherance of their transformation policy, reported ESPNCricinfo in an exclusive.
Having played 200 Tests since re-admission to the game, only five black Africans have been a part of South African cricket. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Ntini-c1865, the former South African fast bowler, stands out amongst the lot, with more than 100 Tests to his name. The remaining
four players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842 have less than 20 games under their belts.
“We want to transform and reflect the demographic of our country as best as possible. A black African selector is needed to help address representation on all levels, which includes management,” said the acting CSA chief executive, Jacques Faul, while talking
to ESPNCricinfo.
However justifying the move, he also conveyed that, “Just as white selectors don't only select white players, so would black selectors not only select black players.”
According to ESPNCricinfo, Ntini, despite his earlier criticism on the national team selection, implying that wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thami-Tsolekile-c2662’s race was the reason behind his non-selection, is a strong contender for the appointment.
“I don't think people realise a gap Ntini left when he retired from international cricket. He was a great role model and obvious choice for the Test team. It is important for us to improve on this statistic. We hope that in the next 200 Tests we will be
able to do that,” added Faul.
Faul also shared that CSA was enthusiastic about a few black African players participating in South African cricket through the franchise system. He named batsman Khaya Zondo from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808,
alongside wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856.
