By black Americans I mean the ones of American heritage

Dont you hate when Africans or Carribeian peeps say you look like --Insert ethnicity here--As if they really can tell the difference between the three..There is no way to predict the way a black American will look. I live in a heavy Carribean immigrant area. People will randomly say "you look Guyanese or Jamacian"..Im like how the h**l is that possible when we have basically the same background. Granted, there some Africans you can distingish from black Americans but alot of the times you cant..Im just wondering why they do they do this..I hate not immediatley being recognized as an American..

Why do they do this..

  1. I don't hate it. I love to watch people cringe when they are wrong! LOL! I'm Black/Puerto Rican, and they guess that I'm everything from Moroccan to Trinidadian to everything in between but what I am!

  2. Hatred, jealousy, bigotry is everywhere, inclusive with everything, and applied towards everyone.

Do not be so concerned with such petty things of this nature...instead, be proud of not only the who you see, but the what you see in your mirror: let them fester in their own insecurities and prejudices.

  3. Well, technically there aren't any "black Americans of American heritage". "Black Americans" are of African descent.   You can call me a "black American"-since I am black and American by birthright, but that will not be accurate to me and will disinherit my parent's origin, which is Africa.

There are people who have mistaken me for Somalian or as a biracial child.

In my humble opinion, it shouldn't matter what you are, but who you are.  We are not colours in a crayon box, we are humans.

  4. I only experienced that once...I had a Jamaican girl ask if I was from Belize. I didn't get offended, though. And I understand your point, we don't look any different from Blacks all over the world.

And just to be fair I hear some ignorant Black Americans, say that Jamaicans are dark. WTF?? They are mixed with the same $hit as us.

  5. You just sound ignorant and stupid.YOu may not understand because you are not a Caribbean person or of Caribbean descent. It is possible to tell,I'm jamaican and I can look at some people and tell right off the bat that they are jamaican without them even opening their mouth..

  6. It's not just a black thing. I've had people tell me I look some ethnicity or another - for some reason some people like to guess on these things. I don't know if they really think that, or they're just trying to make conversation or they really care about my ethnicity. In any case, it's a little annoying coming from strangers/aquaintences.

  7. Sure!

    Peace!

  8. That's never happened to me yet, considering i've only met like five jamacians in my entire lifetime
