Ok so we live out in Virginia and lately we've been seeing this adult black bear. The first time we saw it was in the fall and this summer we've seen it twice and last time it came with in 5 feet of us. He weighs maybe 350 pounds and is eating the plums off our plum tree. I know for a fact that hes not afraid of loud noises because he's not afraid of the lawn mower or my dads pistol! How can we get rid of him since we've already talked to hte game game warden?

  1. It will get tired of coming around if there is no food. So, take in your pet food and put the garbage in the garage.  Ask your neighbors to do the same thing.

Virginia does not have a black bear relocation program.  I guess you a re not aware that black bear populations are increasing all through the eastern and northeastern states.  Unfortunately to the level of becoming pest and problem.  It is actually a human problem, but of course the bear will pay the penalty. You will have to follow the recommendations they give.

  2. if you have blueBird houses i suggest removing inside the house bear have been known to destroy birdhouses. also keep your pets inside the house or they will be eatin.

  3. Contact the DNR and tell them that you have this bear who presents a potential problem and danger. In Minnesota they will come and get them and relocate them. I've had to shoot one because it was so used to people and going through the trash that it became our daily companion and chased the kids into the house.

  4. Call the Virginia wildlife agency and complain of a nuissance bear.  Ask to speak to a biologist or someone who manages wildlife.  A game warden's responsibility is to enforce fish and game rules, not manage wildlife.

Once you reach the right person, they can remove the bear or tell you how to keep it away.
