Question:

Black Caps ODI side most underrated team?

I admit that I might be more than a little bit biased! But I read a lot of places where many people, especially Aussies, write New Zealand off as ****, or a talentless team. Yet, while we are quite bad in Tests, we have managed to be in or around the top three teams in the world for years. Any thoughts?

  1. The kiwis do all right considering they select an international side from just 150 odd 1st class players. There are only something like 50 contracted NZC players, so yeah, they do all right.

  2. I think your a superb team.

I think your a Shane Bond away from the perfect bowling attack

You have a rock-solid opening partnership of Ryder and McCullum who can both single-handedly win a ODI. The middle order of How, Taylor, Styris and Oram, is experienced without being devastating but they do there job.

The bowling attack is definitely underrated. You have the best limited over spinner in the world in Vettori, a young gun with flair (Southee) and a couple of decent swing bowlers Mills and Martin. If you had the wicket-taking ability of Bond then you would have a superb bowling attack.

    Look at recent results.

    2 series wins against England.

    A world cup semi-final.

You have a good consistent side, which is very overrated. The black caps can beat any team on there day (you crushed Australia 3-0 with a superb performance pretty recently) your players know there jobs and they utilise there skills very well.

Your work in the field is superb too

  3. they can beat any team at any time any place

  4. As a team the black caps can't really win their matches, they have some of the best players but they just can't win their matches and i don't know why. But if you look at them individually every member of that team is so talented and amazing.

They have such amazing players. They are one of my favorite teams. And Ross Taylor is my favorite player, he's batting style is so amazing and the way he goes about his cricket he's a real character, i think he's amazing and he will be one of the legends of New Zealand.

  5. Well i have not heard any Aussie's in here bag the Kiwi's..

All i have heard is praise for them,i think NZ are a great team,i always have thought that, you have 1 of the best ever players in Brendan McCullum and Dan Vettori has always been one of my favorite players too..

NZ have always been a great competitor to the Aussie's,they always manage to give us Aussie's a great game and i think they are actually pretty under rated as far as a cricket team is considered..

  6. The black caps are pretty talented ..no doubt... just that they dont have big names like "lara of windies, gilchrist, ponting of d aussies"... underrated probably coz they dont play international cricket as often as the other top 5 teams do!!

  7. i like ross taylor and tim southee

  8. u could say it

  9. I think you are. I like New Zealand's side, Dan Vettori is a good ODI skipper, Brendon McCullum's a class act and some of the younger players (Tim Southee, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor - to name a few), are definately talents for the future. Ryder, so long as he sorts out his off-field behaviour, would be a great partner for McCullum (as we, England, found out in New Zealand).

The only problem is, New Zealand seem to choke at the big tournaments. Mind you, with this "fresh-faced" side and some experience in Vettori, McCullum, Styris, etc. Well, I think other ODI teams would be wrong to underestimate you Black Caps! :)
