Chelsea have suffered their first home defeat of the season when they were thrashed by Sunderland 3-nil at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Nedum Onuoha, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck all scored goals to steer Sunderland to a well deserved victory over the Blues.
Injuries to Chelsea captain John Terry and Alex left Chelsea with the fresh defensive partnership of Paulo Ferriera and Ivanovic who failed to absorb the attacks.
The first real chance that Chelsea had was fumbled by Nicolas Anelka. Yuri had his attempt which saw the ball flying by the goal post. Chelsea midfielder Ramires sent an 18-yard header towards the top corner in the 24th minute but Craig Gordon saved it.
Michael Turner fouled Drogba on the edge of penalty are in the 28th minute. However the free kick only managed to fetch a corner. His later attempt landed in the hands of Gordon.
Nedum Onuoha scored just at the stroke of half-time, handing Sunderland a 1-0 lead.
Shortly into the second half, Gyan added to Chelsea’s misery by netting another goal taking a 2-0 lead for the Black Cats.
Didier Drogba only managed a couple more shots, while their final attempt fell short as Anelka’s shot just missed the goal.
In the 87th minute, a sloppy back pass by Cole handed Welbeck and opportunity to score and he made it 3-0 for Sunderland.
Chelsea has now lost last two of the three matches it has played in this season.
