Black Caviar: An unbeaten upbeat mare enjoying Royal Ascot title
It has not happen frequently in the history of horseracing that a runner wins more than 20 races in a row. Black Caviar is one of those few who enjoy this honour.
It is quite amazing and exciting to note that the Peter G. Moody trained brown mare has never stepped down from the podium throughout her racing career.
Since debuting in April 2009, the six-year-old veteran sprinter has won all of her 22 races, so far.
This is quite awesome. In the contemporary world, there is hardly a runner who can match to this class and calibre.
The Australian mare owns the rich legacy of her Sire, Bel Esprit and Dam, Helsinge - both hail from Australia.
The brilliant runner has marvellously tested her inherent racing credentials, and capabilities on all sorts of tracks, so far. From Flemington to Caulfield and Moonee to Randwick, she is equally effective everywhere. This is the thing that distinguishes her from her competitors.
The most part of Black Caviar’s unbeaten record of 22 races is owed to conditioner Moody, who has been applying his excellent training techniques and skills to prepare the mare for every thick and thin since the very beginning.
The legendary trainer has left no stone unturned while embellishing the gifted runner.
For many, it will be a startling fact that the mare has constantly been a red hot favourite runner for her every race, since September 2009 to date.
Black Caviar’s 19 triumphs have come under jockey, Luke Nolen, who poses to be her regular rider. In the first two races of her career, the mare was driven by Jarrad Noske. On just one occasion, she sprinted under, Ben Melham.
It was Saturday, June 23, 2012 when the maverick mare added the maiden Royal Ascot glory to her unbeaten record, and went 22 up in as many starts.
Against 13 strong rivals, she landed into the 6 furlong good course of Ascot, with a view to lift the ace title of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (British Champions Series & Global Sprint Challenge) (Group 1).
While being a 1 to 6 favourite candidate, the mare demonstrated her traditional class of electric pace, and clean run to cross the finish line.
This was a tremendous triumph that perked up the victor’s market value further. The 22nd consecutive conquest has proved once again that the mare is hard to beat.
Black Caviar is jointly owned by Gary and Kerryn, Werrett Bloodstock, Colin and Jannene Madden, Pam Hawkes, David and Jill Taylor.
The stylish and sizzling sprinter has career earnings of £3,913,951 so far. Out of her total 22 wins, a dozen include Group One level with the Diamond Jubilee Stakes of Saturday being the last one.
Known in her stable as Nelly, the mare’s height is 164.6 centimetres coupled with the optimum racing weight of 565-575kg.
When Black Caviar started her career, the Aussie Ruler football legend, Dale Thomas, made a bet with David Taylor that the mare would not be able to win 20 races in a row. On the talented runner’s 20th triumph in April 2012, Thomas had to fulfill the bet by getting the mare’s image tattooed on his back.
Thus, Black Caviar poses to be a big name in the horseracing world. She is at the peak of her form that will allow her to run and win consistently for years to come. The mare is indeed an exciting prospect in the Thoroughbred flat racing.
