Black Caviar in top-notch form before the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot
Peter Moody’s charge, Black Caviar, has been placed at Newmarket since she made the journey from Australia to Great Britain to compete in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on 23rd June, 2012.
The brown mare has been turning in some light exercises and hasn’t been taken through vigorous workouts yet, however, it is reported that she is doing extremely well.
The trainer will soon reach England and will take Black Caviar’s training up a notch.
Tony Hayden, Moody’s assistant, has been training the runner in the absence of the conditioner, and he reported that the runner is in terrific form, referring to this, the trainer commented:
"She's bouncing out of her skin and he said to me please get over here quick-smart and start doing a bit more work with the horse. I'd rather it be that way than him saying we're struggling and I'm not happy with her.”
Moody discussed her training plans and stated that she will train on the artificial track called Al Bahathr, which is about nine furlongs.
The ground at Ascot is a major concern for most trainers, but Moody seems to be unaffected by the soft surface of the track, stating that she can handle it well and it will not hinder her performance in any way.
Moody stated that the runner has dealt with testing conditions before at Cranbourne, and easily aced the track there.
He stated:
"Race conditions are a much different scenario but she's a big, heavy mare. It's well known she's got a few issues and those horses generally tend to appreciate a bit of cut in the ground. We don't want to see a bog track but what you find at Ascot
is the straight course copes with the wet much better than the bottom anyway."
The daughter of Bel Esprit, out of mare Helsinge, will be mounted by rider Luke Nolen in this prestigious event, who has guided her to 18 of 21 victories. The jockey has confidence in this mare that the soft track will not bother her.
