Black Caviar’s career comes to an end
Superstar racehorse Black Caviar has retired from the sport, after she won her 25th and last race at Randwick in Australia on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She has had a tremendous career and made her team proud every time she stepped out on a racecourse.
Her trainer Peter Moody said, “The owners and myself had a long chat over the last couple of days and at lunchtime today we decided 25 was a great number to go out on. Collectively the mare is in great shape. We thought long and hard about Ascot, Brisbane
and Adelaide but it's a good time to finish as she's done everything we've asked of her.”
He added, “It's time to pull the career on one of our finest horses ever. Let's stop now before something can go haywire. What else can we achieve, we don't want to do anything wrong by the horse. I just thought job done, she gave her all. She's got a few
aches and pains but we always wanted to make sure she finished on a good note.”
The Australian mare started off her career in 2009 and took part in four races that year. She was quite impressive right from the start and dominated her opponents with her speed and skills. No one was able to give a tough time to her and she had a 100 percent
winning percentage during her maiden season.
Next year proved to be the same, as she went onto win four more races for her team. By then, she was being considered as one of the toughest challengers of all time and her rivals feared to battle against her.
No one ever managed to stop the talented mare from keeping her 100 percent winning record and she stretched her victories to 25 in the end.
There was one occasion when Black Caviar came close to losing a race because of a mistake by her jockey Luke Nolen, but she luckily managed to succeed by a head distance in the end.
Although there have been some great runners during this era, none could come close to maintaining such dominance over the long run.
