Question:

Black&Decker SilverStone Coating on Iron is Peeling - Help? Suggestions?

What can I do to repair this iron? It has been in my possession for many years, but only gets occasional use. The problem: The Silver Stone Coating is peeling off of the bottom front edge of the iron, around where the steam holes are.

Everything else on the iron works just fine. I have avoided putting water into the iron and avoided putting it on STEAM setting; (surmise the steam might accelerate the peeling).

I hate to discard a perfectly functional unit. Can I scrape off ALL the Silver Stone? Is there a way to ADD more Silver Stone to re-coat the iron? Any other suggestions or do I just give it away to be used by a person who needs heat for crafts project and doesn't care about the peeling Silver Stone? Thanks for any ideas you have tried or suggestions you might offer. :-)

  1. Usually once it starts to peel it keeps going. When I worked in a boutique we would steam all the clothes. You can buy a steamer pretty reasonably and they don't leave any lines in the fabric.

  2. If you rarely use it, keep doing just what you are doing.  If you Need to steam some part of what you are ironing, flick a few drops of water on it or get one of those cheap spray bottles and put an old pillow case between so as not to get more coating on your clothes.

Why pay good money for something you only use a couple times of year?
