Black Eyeliner / Shadow Going on Blue?

Question

I see all these girls with seriously black eyeliner and eyeshadow; yet when I apply black eyeliner, it comes out on my skin a dark blue color. I also have some black eyeshadow which turns out to be a blueish color and ends up making me look like I'm from the 80's. How do you achieve a jet black color from these products, or am I just using the wrong products?

Any suggestions regarding brands would be great. Also, I have a light complexion with olive tones, but I can never get that BLACK look for my eyes! :(

This may not be the case for you, but when I wear certain shades of eye shadow with black eyeliner- it distorts the color. I noticed this about a year ago when I applied a pale pink color of the eye liner instead of after wards, and people actually thought I was wearing blue eyeliner.

my bestfriend has these problems too. but when i do her make up it looks great. i use avon cosmetics their best black eyeliner is called "glimmersticks" the color is "blackest black". and they also have eye makeup remover in lotion form and works better than the liquid. (just in case you mess up)
