Question:

Black Moor, Sick?

I recently purchased two black moor goldfish [yesterday] and there have appeared to be no problems at all. But today, I noticed one of the fish is just sort of, floating around, almost like he's asleep, but not dead. And the minute you tap the side of the tank, he swims around again, no problem. The other black moor in the tank with him is absolutely fine, and is.. well.. hyper.. if fish can be hyper.

Any ideas what's up with him?

  1. Not knowing the history of your fish, I can only assume the tired guy was addicted to red bull. Try pouring Red Bull in the tank. OR, just get some expresso and let it cool down and toss him in it, and then quickly put him back, Good Luck, and BTW I'm joking.

Sometimes it takes a couple days for a fish to get adjusted to his new environment. Just like people or any living thing, everybody handles situations differently. I hope he's okay!

  2. Sometimes fish are a little scared of new places, he might be in a state of shock. Don't mess with the tank for 3 days or so {feed them, but dont tap on the glass or anything[check that he's still living too!!] } Or until he is normal. If you have a tank light, turn it off and put a thin cloth over the tank so dim light can get through. Just give him some time.

That's a good sort of Care Sheet.

  3. I work for a pet dept. in a large retail store.  my store sells black moors, and from what you say...don't worry.  Regardless of what people say, fish do rest.  The fish was prorbably resting as normal.  All fish rest, and when fish do rest; they do nothing.  When you tap on the glass; it alerts him and he wakes up.

  4. your newly aquired fish is very stress you should quarantine it first add rocksalt with good aeration.
