The latest offering from Treyarch will continue the story of Black Ops’ protagonist, Frank Woods, and the narration will be similar to the original’s interrogation style.
Call of Duty: Black Ops ended with a considerable amount of loose ends as to what would happen next and what was left in-store for Frank Woods, Alex Mason and David Mason. Mason had visions of what was either his past or what gamers could expect in the next instalment in the series.
It turns out that the visions were of the latter as Woods will be returning for Black Ops 2 and this time around will be facing off a new villain. Raul Menendez may sound like a football player more than a terrorist with his tattoos and rather meticulously spiked hairdo, but the game will see the player fighting against Menendez for a span of 30 years.
According to Activision, the game is not just set in the future but rather players will be fighting Menendez in the past and present as well. The story is set to kick off and add some background in Afghanistan during the 1980s and some parts of the game are set to take place between then and 2025 as well.
Fans are still unsure as to how that would work but it seems that Treyarch is hesitant when it comes to putting all their eggs into one futuristic basket and this provides a nice safety net if gamers do not take to the futuristic setting.
It also opens up a number of different opportunities for multiplayer action yet those will be discussed later on.
There will be background for Frank Woods’ character in the latest game and will also explore the relationship of the two Masons as well; all the while the three characters will be taking on a global terror threat at the same time.
Black Ops 2 is also rumoured to tie up any and all loose ends from the previous game and provide a fitting conclusion to the original. However, we’ll be the judge of that when the game finally hits stores later this year.
