Activision has released the reveal trailer for their sequel to Treyarch’s Black Ops and along with it a plethora of details have emerged, one of which is the fact that the game is set in the future.
The Call of Duty series is undoubtedly the best-selling series in the history of the video game industry and although an increasing number of gamers are slowly going frustrated with the ‘same-y’ feel of each new instalment of the game, any news relating
to a new title in the series is sure to turn a few heads.
At first, there were rumours as to what Treyarch’s follow-up to their best-seller, Black Ops, would be titled and right from the get-go ‘Black Ops 2’ became a clear favourite. After that, the speculation turned to the setting of the game. With World War
II and the Cold War both covered in previous games and Infinity Ward covering the modern-military first-person shooter genre, it seems that all Treyarch had to look forward to was the future.
It turns out that Treyarch did more than just look into the future, they set their latest game in it. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be set around 2025. Fans who are worried about the game becoming too futuristic with lasers and light sabres need not worry
as it seems soldiers will still be using guns, bullets and rockets 13 years from now as well.
However, there will be an increased reliance of drones and technology, which only makes sense seeing how the armed forces are making increased use of them these days as well. Quad-rotor aircraft and glasses/visors with HUDs are two examples of futuristic
technology as are a number of other mechs that players will both be fighting against and have at their disposal as well.
Whether or not a sci-fi, futuristic first-person shooter is something that gamers will want from a Call of Duty game is a big question that comes up yet one has to commend Treyarch for at least shaking things up in what was steadily becoming a stagnant and
stale franchise.
