Treyarch’s sequel to Black Ops could be set in the future if a teaser image and a Russian with an unhealthy obsession with fire-arms are to be believed.
The speculation surrounding Treyarch’s third-instalment in their Call of Duty series is growing as the alleged reveal date for Black Ops 2 draws ever closer. Even the title of the game itself has not been confirmed, though there is substantial evidence pointing to ‘Black Ops 2’.
Domains have been registered and the groundwork has already been laid out by the publisher, yet with that detail all but confirmed, there are many more that still need answering including the setting, premise and plot.
As for the setting, well it seems that Treyarch is ditching the past, skipping the present and aiming for the future. With previous titles, World at War and Black Ops, taking place in World War II and the Cold War and Infinity Ward marking out ‘Modern Warfare’ as their territory, it seems that Treyarch are aiming for a futuristic setting with their next instalment.
An image of quad rotor attack drone was posted on Activision’s website, CallofDuty.com, and the picture of the futuristic weapon, which incidentally also appears in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, is linked to the latest video by YouTube’s gun wielding star, FPS Russia.
The video has the show’s presenter flying the same RC attack drone, which has been fitted with a submachine and a 100 rounds of ammunition, using a tablet that shows video being transmitted by the drone itself.
The presenter drops plenty of hints as to how it could have something to do with the next Call of Duty game. He said, "The technology in this baby isn't going to be out there for at least another decade. Looks like the future's going to be fun. But if you can't wait another 15 years my friends are telling me that this baby might just be in the next Call of Duty game, which would be the sh*t."
Who these ‘friends’ are at this point remains a mystery though the fact that the CallofDuty.com would have a link to FPS Russia’s video should give everyone a hint. At the same time though one has to ask if Activision is jerking everyone’s chain or not.
It seems no one will know for sure until the official reveal on the 1st of May.
