Raul Menendez and Heath Ledger’s The Joker are brothers with the same father, David Goyer, but from different mothers. Also Raul doesn’t wear make up.
The fine line between Hollywood production values and those of video games, which existed for many, many years, is blurring somewhat as the video game industry is attracting some of the best talent from the film industry.
Everyone who has Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight will remember Heath Ledger’s the Joker. The character that captivated audiences throughout the film and til this day has Facebook cover photos and budding artists dedicated to him.
Well it turns out that the person who wrote The Joker’s character for the movie is at the helm of the Black Ops 2 story as well and has developed the character of Raul Menendez, a character that Treyarch is hoping will become the video game equvialent of the Dark Knight’s Joker.
David Anthony, the game director behind Black Ops 2, highlighted the fact that the studio was aiming to be rather ambitious with its story. He explained how David Goyer, the writer behind the Joker in the Dark Knight, wrote the script for the first Black Ops game, how it was an enjoyable experience and finally how the two were working on taking Black Ops 2 to the next level.
Anthony likened the game’s antagonist as being in the same line as Tony Soprano; someone who everyone knows is the bad guy but can relate and sympathize with.
“He's the main character of the show, but he's a villain. You can understand who this guy is as a human being; you can relate to him.” Explained the game director, however he continued that when Menendez’s other side came out to the forefront gamers would be left shocked.
Explaining the philosophy behind villains in real life Anthony pointed out that in order, "To understand most villains in real life you have to realise they don't see themselves as villains. They really don't. They see themselves as heroes.”
Anothony also pointed out that gamers could expect to play as Anthony in the game and get to know his side of the story as well, he said, “when you replay it (Black Ops 2), you'll see another perspective".
