  1. The black panther is a leopard species, and like the spotted leopards, typically lives a solitary life. As for dwelling, it is not uncommon for them to be found in a arboreal (trees) habitat.

  2. black panthers are actually jaguars or leopards with too much of a hormone called melanin. this makes all the fur and skin black. i:e if there is too little melanin you would get an albino , white panther.

( very rare, but white lions are relatively common)

lions dont live in "dens" but on the ground anywhere they like as nothing will hunt or kill them. (apart from humans)

leopards and jaguars both live in trees or caves depending on their habitat.

  3. Black panthers can be either leopards or jaguars, althoguh leopards are more common. The black skin is caused by excess melanin. I'm not sure about the proper name, but they tend to live in bushes, trees or caves.

  4. There is no actual species called a black panther - it's simply the name given to melanistic leopards. That is, leopards with an excess of the dark pigment melanin, resulting in an almost totally black coat (the markings will still show up against the background in certain lights). Leopards come from Africa and Asia, with melanism being more common in Asia. There are no leopards in South America - you are probably thinking of jaguars. Melanistic jaguars can occur, and some people also refer to these black jaguars as panthers, though this is not technically correct.

Neither leopards, jaguars or lions live in dens. Only a mother with very young cubs will have a den, into which she retreats to give birth. This is simply to keep the cubs hidden and safe from predators while they are small and vulnerable. The den may be anything from a cave to a dense patch of vegetation, and is abandoned once the cubs are around 6 weeks of age. After this, the cubs will sleep in the open like their mother.
