Don't you think it's so cool that there are black people in Hockey? I love Hockey, I really do. I wish there were more, but I'm ok with what we have now.

  1. i like having a variety of different color people from different countries playing hockey. im asian so its nice to see an asian in there occasionally. just as long as they can play im fine with any1

  2. It's cool, but you know I grew up playing hockey here in California. I've played with blacks, Mexicans, Asians, and middle eastern players. It's actually spread out pretty well here, so I see no reason why it couldn't be spread out in the NHL as well. Someday, maybe there will be a large interracial boom in hockey that will encourage more fans. I see that happening because of all of the Europeans in basketball too.

  3. cool.  yeah.  i am sure they love it that we love it.  like it would also be cool if there were more in baseball.  or more whites in basketball and...well, i guess it doesn't really matter.

  4. You know, I don't think about that too often.

  5. Yeah it's tight. You have Iginla who is pretty much one of the best in the game right now and he is black. There is nothing wrong with skin color in the NHL or in any sport. Except soccer. Only mexicans are good. :P

  6. hockey rocks my socks :) & yahh i know there isn't that many black people in hockey, i wish there were more too.

  7. I think it should be remembered of who the first were. I know Grant Fuhr isn't the first, but man he was a great goalie. If you want to see one of the great goalies, watch some of his films in the past. He is a Stanley cup champ, and a hall of famer.

Willie O'Ree was the first. Now i believe 15-20 black players are in the league.

    A. Carter, and K. Weeks are the best known.

I am glad the sport is growing, it just means the product will get better.

  8. As long as the player can put the puck in the net, I don't care if his skin is red with orange stripes.

  9. Yea it's cool since no one expects it really.  I give a lot of credit to the NHL.  There is still racism so thats why I give then credit.  I think it is fine with what we have now too.

  10. Yes, its cool. Same as its cool there are Asians and pasty white kids.

I bet Larry Bird blew your mind.

  11. Okay......It's nice that it's no longer a all white sport but honestly I really don't care that much about the color of someone's skin as long as their good (unless they're playing against me).

  12. I see what you are saying, but I honestly have never seen colour at all in ANY sport.

  13. ***greatwhitenorth.......you typify a pompous ***. You must be from Toronto...do you listen to yourself speak or read what you write??

  14. I wonder where in the world you are from? I guess it’s a difference of where you are from and what you have come accustomed to if seeing African Americans in hockey is a big deal. I honestly don’t think of people as black or whites, i use the terms African American and Caucasian. So it is totally cool if any person wants to play any sport.

  15. Do you expect to see alot of people on this board that doesn't think having blacks in hockey is cool?

Yes its cool. Its also cool not to stereotype people.

  16. I guess it may be cool to an American, but being Canadian we don't divide everything into race and colour, so I haven't really thought about it or noticed it before.

I was born and lived my whole life in Toronto.  Toronto is a very diverse city and I am very proud of my city because of this and for many other reasons.  The city has become WAY more diverse now than it was 20-30 years ago when I was a kid.  Even when I was a kid playing house-league hockey, there were always black, Philipino, Chinese and any other race you can think of playing the game.

The thing I always find neet about the black players is that they don't have that way of talking that most blacks playing basketball or involved in today's music have.  They talk and sound like normal Canadians.  They sound like I do.  Anson Carter is a great example.  d**n, he sounds more white than I do.  He's a good Canadian kid and I can relate to him because he is from Toronto, and no matter what colour we are, we are both Canadians and Torontonians.

The fact that there are any black players in the NHL shows how more liberal Canada is compared to the USA.  If hockey was an American sport than you would never see blacks playing hockey, because segregation is still a reality in the USA.  Just look at the MLB and how the numbers of African Americans are dropping, compared to basketball and football.  Hockey, being a Canadian sport where most of the prospects come from Canada, the number of blacks and other racial minorities is on the rise.

Another reason to love our game.

  17. Yeah it's cool!! It makes hockey a more of a international sport and I like that!

  18. Yes, I agree. It is cool that many nations and colours can play in one sport. I wish there were more too but they seem to like Basketball or Football better

  19. one thing i think isnt cool was the emery situation in ottawa, he got too much blame ive never seen anyone going from the nhl finals to being a blamed for all the problems. i think his skin color came made it easier for the ottawa bums to give him more c**p over the issue since he is such a stand out. Hopefully there will be more african americans in hockey so the sport will grow more. more Iginals and Emerys say what you want but ottawa did its part too in damaging his career.

For the guy who says that there would be less african americans in hockey if it was an american sport??? you stupid or something? football, baseball and basektball all are american sports and all have a large number of african americans playing. i think there would be more africans americans if anything.
