Black Screen On All Inputs

Question

When the TV is plugged in and turned on I see (in the top right corner) some word in gren for only about a half second or less and then the screen goes completly black. Sounds works just fine. I received the TV froma friend for free because it has this problem. He believes it to be an issue with the "Backlight Inverter" but he was not really sure.I would love to be able to determine the real cause of this issue and ultimantly fix it.
