  1. In 1833, the British Imperial Act abolished slavery in the British Empire (including the Canadian colonies).   So yeah they did have some but no where near as many as Americans or for as long of a time because laws were created to protect slaves in other countries...slavery was still wrong though.

  2. Rome had slaves of every hue, and later Spain and Portugal were the primary slave trade nations...I'm sure they kept a few for domestic use. Large scale black slavery was mainly in tropical areas with plantation cultures...the American south and the Islands owned by England, France and Portugal...even the Dutch. Ever hear of Haiti?

  3. I don't think so. Not like in North America and South America. They had indentured servants, if I remember correctly.

  4. There were slaves in Europe, but slavery was abolished WAY earlier. Mostly because it wasn't very profitable, so no one cared, whereas in America, slaves were the basis of our economy. that's part of the reason slavery and race still has such a big impact on American society, and less so in Europe.

  5. i beleive there were some in europe at one point - just not to the extent that they were in the americas. spain rings a bell...
