There was a black spider on my desk earlier today. It was about the size of a pen caps diameter. It had a white stripe on the butt of its body and on the two black legs. What was it

Possibly a Bold Jumping Spider, although they normally have one or more noticeable spots as well. They aren't harmful to people.
