Black Sticks Men’s U-21 squad announced for 1st Sultan Johor Cup Tournament in Malaysia
Head Coach Grant Edwards has named Junior Black Sticks Men’s hockey team to feature in the inaugural edition of Sultan Johor Cup Men’s Junior Invitational Hockey Tournament decided to be played in Malaysia from November 5 to 12. The event will be the second
international tournament for the Junior Black Stick Men in the current year.
The selection of the junior squad is based on their performance and fitness during the training process at the camp conducted in Papatoetoe. The head coach analysed in detail, the form and the strength of the players before choosing the 18 best players from
a group of 30 players that was shaped after the U-21 National tournament held almost four months ago in May.
“Over the four days in camp, we held three very competitive selection matches. We were looking for players who had a high level of fitness with strong technical ability and game awareness. Over the next six weeks, players will be training in their regions
and monitored as part of their development programmes,” Grant Edwards, the Head Coach of the Junior Black Sticks Men hockey team, stated about players’ preparation and fitness for the event.
The main targets for the Owen G Glenn Future Black Sticks Programme are the 2013 Junior World Cup and 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

“This national junior programme gives these athletes the best opportunity for success at world level events and will help develop our future national players,” Toni Cumpston, Hockey New Zealand’s High Performance manager, stated about their ongoing national
junior programme.
Following are the Junior Black Sticks athletes for the inaugural edition of the Sultan Johor Cup Men’s Junior Invitational Tournament in Malaysia:
Callum Bailey, Cory Bennett, Isaac Staples, Zach Woods, Rob Creffier, Jared Panchia, Nick Ross, Cameron Hayde, Jared Jones, Dane Lett, Thomas Loudon, Shay Neal, Dwayne Rowsell, Kane Russell, Alexander Shaw, Jacob Smith, George Enersen
