Black Sticks’ ready to brace for an exciting hockey season at National Hockey League: Hockey News
Black Sticks’ National Hockey League will be full of swinging action from the end of July 2011 in which New Zealand’s domestic teams as well as some of the Australian domestic teams will be up against each other. The National Hockey League will be played
from July 30 to August 14, in different cities across the country.
Tamsin Lee, the talented Bathurst based player, who showed a very good performance in the recently held Australian Hockey League (AHL), will also, be among the players for the Black Sticks’ campaign. However, the former South Premier League star will play
for a young Southern team in the National Hockey League in New Zealand.
Previously she has represented New South Wales (NSW) Arrows, who were defeated by South Australia in a nail-biting finish in the recently held Women’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) which concluded in Darwin last week.
Despite the fact that the Arrows are quite loaded with a lot of national players, Southern Suns (South Australia) succeeded in crossing the barrier for the first time, while NSW Arrows failed to lift their second title in the extended three years.
“It’s a great opportunity to get some more overseas experience. I played over there last year and loved it. I play for Southern. They aren’t the strongest team in the competition, so it is good to be able to help them. They are very keen and love to learn.
I was actually surprised how strong the NHL is. It is probably a bit weaker than the AHL, but not by much”, she stated.
Tamsin Lee further stated that it was quite disappointing for the team as they lost to Southern Suns by 1-0, but they tried very hard and remained unlucky because they could not score the much needed equaliser.
Although, NSW Arrows had maintained a severe pressure, but all their efforts went in vain and Southern Suns luckily survived until the end which made it possible for them to lift the trophy for the first time since 1995.
“They scored first up and from then on both teams had their opportunities but no-one could put it in the net. They were just lucky to get that early goal which proved to be the difference”, Tamsin Lee further added.
Lee had also represented Australian Jillaroos in 2009 Women’s Junior World Cup and had a fair chances to represent her country at the higher level, but she still has to wait to be selected for the national side as she was ignored by the selectors this time.
Unluckily she was not named in the development side as well.
