Obviously black or white are not colours, so in what category are they? Also, is grey a colour? Can black be described at "Very dark grey?" or white as "very light grey?"

  1. black is the absence of colour...and colours are made from the colour white...

  2. Color is just our perception of reflected energy.  The human eye can only discern a narrow spectrum of this energy (although a much larger spectrum than most animals can) by way of three different types of "cones" in the eye which are sensitive to three different wavelengths of light, commonly called red, green, and blue.  Interestingly, many other animals have different combinations of cones that are sensitive to other wavelengths of light that are invisible to us, so they percieve colors that we have no mental ability to grasp.  So I guess what is and isn't a "color" all depends on who you are.

  3. white is a mjxture of colors...

when red, green and blue are mixed in equal amount thn color formed is nothing but the white...

when there is no color then it's given a color name as black.

u can compare this with sunlight also...which contains VIBGYOR colors..

from red to violet (light blue) though green. when there is no light it's dark. tht's blck.

  4. Black is the absence of colour, white is the presence of every colour. Of course, what we usually consider to be 'white' or 'black' isn't truly white or black--if you look more closely at something that seems black, often you see other colours in there like very dark blue. In fact, sometimes what seems black is in fact 'very dark grey'!

Grey, however, is a bit of an odd colour. It's monochromatic, so for example colour-blind people can see greys. In a way, grey is a shade of white or black, so I suppose it's not a true colour.

  5. They are considered neutral.  Yes, dark grey, light grey etc, are all called neutral.  Of course we have to give them a name if we have to describe it to someone, ergo, light grey, meduim grey etc.

When you add color to grey (light or dark either one) it becomes a tone.
