Black and white room?

Question

I would like to paint my room white with one wall of black wallpaper but my mum says that I dont want to have it like that and it's not my style. Is there any way I can show her that I do want it that colour and that I'm not just saying that?

Maybe look up some ideas on the web and show them to her.  Maybe she just isn't envisioning what you are.  Talk to her and let her know how you feel and find out why she is opposed to it!  Maybe you can add splashes of color elsewhere in the room and she won't think it is too dark!

Why dont you Paint the Room White and the Wall you want to Wallpaper Black ,Paint Black Circles Different sizes.Or get a Black and White Painting For the Wall.

Black Wallpaper is very over the Top for one wall.

that sounds pretty cool! =D maybe if you draw it out on a piece of paper what you want, or show her a picture? i don't know, something like that to show her how cool the idea really is :)

I think it would look great with red accents. Go to HGTV and maybe you can find some pics of rooms with that color scheme.

Black is beautiful but it's kinda different the way you want your room to be. They said colors affect our emotions, maybe your mother wants your room's color to be relaxing and  refreshing to the eyes. Anyway, if it's really black and white that you want, you need to convince your mother about the positive side of it.

Painting one wall black should be no big deal, afterall, if you end up not liking it or your mum just cant handle it, you can always paint back over it...it's just paint, relax ;-)

edit: try not to stress that you want "your style" to be the issue...you just want to experiment, which everyone should do once in a while...your mum may be concerned that BLACK is a "statement" of some sort that she misunderstands...show her some good example of it, get some magazines with pictures of interior designs that you like, seach some on the internet and show her...have fun with that!

Mono or duo chromatic decorating is very hip.  Here's what I would suggest:

The black wall should be the wall that is the focal point, ideally the wall with understated decor on it.  For example, if in the living room, the wall with the fireplace should be black and the fireplace remains the focal point.  A black wall that is seen from afar vs the entry way wall would be more pleasing.  

Black can be made into Asian decor, hip/funky whimsical decor, or chic & simple....  Check out the room I found online
