  1. Well, if a black belt has you in a choke hold, you may go unconscious before being able to attack the groin.  Especially if they have an arm trapped.

  2. I am not a Black Belt but a Purple and have had to defend myself on a few occasions and I can tell you that I have no more trouble defending against groin strikes as those who have no BJJ experience.  Judo has it right, Position first, there is no submission without position

I have never been on my back in a real life situation and if I was I would use sweeps and hip movement to stand up or at least gain top position.  If someone is going to reach for my groin while in top position think about all of the extremely vital areas there are for me to strike.  Do you thik someone on the bottom can generate enough force to end a confrontation with a strike to the groin, or can I generate enough force to immobilize and force the opponent to defend his neck, eyes, nose, jaw??

Its probably becaus I started as a wrestler that control and position is more my game than fancy submissions though.  Chokes end street fights well though. I love chokes

  3. I'm not a Blackbelt in BJJ, but I use submissions and grappling alot.

First off, balls aren't that exposed when you are on someone's back choking them out.. (also keep in mind, you can actually choke people standing up as well).

Since I am not a PURE BJJ player I can't say, but what I can tell you is that most BJJ guys train takedowns, and train position over submission, meaning they aren't going to go to their backs, and if they go there they aren't staying there.

Pretty much every real scenario I have been involved with, I have gone to the ground with. Then again they have been in a security capacity, knowing I had back up guarding my back and the law on my side.

I have had more than my share of ego filled competetions in the bar or on the street as well, again gone to the ground, no problems with balls or people going for my eyes (pretty easy to defend) trust me, I have had enough people try.

I have never had to defend my life per say, despite people telling me they were going to kill me, but if I was in the situation where I felt my life was threatened I would use a weapon.

I have been involved with multiple attacker scenarios, and gotten my @ss kicked because I was standing up with a guy and gotten sucker punched from behind. Somehow my years of Martial Arts, and Military training, (even in teh deadly Krav Maga) and I still don't have eyes on the back of my head, and believe me I move around a lot in a fight, still hasn't prevented me from catching blunt force trauma to the back of the head, or saved me from concussions...

    I even do the MMA.....

But yeah, ground work is great, so are standing chokes and standing grappling techniques. (BJJ also has these, they just prefer the control you have over an opponent on the ground).

    Just my experience.

  4. no ppl jumping in, no weapons (im guessing) no eye raking? no hitting to the back of the head or back of the neck? why not no groin strikes too?

otherwise this is a real fight and you shouldn't go to the ground if you dont have to.

my point is the only way around it is a rule, or an agreement that you wont do it on long island...

  5. unless you are wearing a steel cup no matter what martial art you are using your balls are always exposed to being hit.
