I know a black belt in taekwondo and she only knows like 5 very basic kicks. Do most blackbelts know more kicks? And will black belts learn those spinning kicks?

  1. There's way more than just five kicks here is a small list of different kicks:

    Basic kicks:

    round-house kick

    side kick

    back kick

    front kick

    Advanced kicks:

    ax kick

    cresent kick

    hook kick

    reverse round kick

    Jumping/flying/spinning kicks:

    jumping round kick

    jumping ax kick

    jumping front kick

    butterfly kick

    540 kick

    tornado kick

    flying side kick

    flying back kick

There are a few more kicks but, the ones above excluding the 540 kick, butterfly kick, and  flying back kick are usually learned. I can't say why she would only know five kicks, but there could be a ton of reasons.

  2. well im a black belt and she should know alot more then 5 kicks....especially being a black belt she should know alot of spinning jumping kicks

there are a good 25 kicks she should know being a black belt

    The kick -Variations

front kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

round kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

side kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

heel kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

stomp kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

hook kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

    axe kick - jump

inner cresant kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

outer cresant kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

twist kick -jump, reverse, reverse jump

    twin jump front kick

  3. My guess is that she meant that she knows 5 "basic" kicks, and from those she adds spins or jumps or _______....so in reality, she knows a lot more than simply 5 kicks.  There's no way someone could be a black belt in TKD and "only" know five kicks.

I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I've been doing "those spinning kicks" since I was at least a green belt.

  4. Do you mean she has only been taught 5 kicks or she has only shown you 5 kicks?.

If she only knows 5 kicks then she should not be a black belt, as for the other well .... ask her to show you more. As for learning spinning kicks that all depends on the school and teacher.

  5. well, i have a 3rd degree black belt in TKD and i know many more kicks than taht and i would expect that she would too. we have basic kicks for each belt. they are:

    no belt- front kick

    white- sidekick

    gold- round kick

    orange- double round

green- reverse (spinning) side kick and double side

    purple- hook kick

blue- reverse hook and round side and tornado

red- reverse cresent and hook round side

2nd brown- front round side hook and jumping side and flying side

1rst brown- double round double side

black- front double round hook  round double side

we also have many kicks that are not basics like:

    jumping front

    axe

    jumping revrse hook

    jumping reverse side

    jumping round

    and so on.

again, i am suprised she only knows five kicks. she should really know more than that.

  6. I have 3 kids in martial arts and taekwondo is by far the easiest. My 3 are in karate and MMA my 6 year old already knows 3 kicks and is only a white belt. When they compete with taekwondo students the skills in karate by far out weigh those from a taekwondo dojo.  Our middle child who is a yellow belt has the hardest kicks in his belt class and he knows 5 basic kicks already, and lastly the oldest who is a green belt competes and spars on a black belt level, in karate and muay thai, and is an asst. instructor. So taekwondo to me is really too easy.

  7. People who take Martial Arts specially Taekwondo know various kicks and foot meneuvers.  Maybe she "meant" that she only uses 5 or so kicks when doing most of her sparrowing or kata (forms / techniques).  Basic kicks are side-thrust kick, rounhouse, scoop, spinning back, axe, chicken-kick, not to mention combinations like "low-high" (kicking to opponents groin *in hopes to lowering his guard* then back to head) there are certainly alot more kicks then 5... she probably was confused, or recieved her black belt from a studio who rewards belts for good grades in school lol.

  8. Give up taekwondo and get in MMA

  9. taekwondo is a kicking martial art you learn heeps of kicks and many very complecated kicks like air kicks spinning kicks and grounds kicks heeps of types. if that blackbelt you know is very young then that would be why she doesn't know any difficult kicks.

  10. Yes some of those kicks will be spinning but there should be far more than only 5 kicks.

  11. Don't listen to bakerchristiandayschool, Taekwondo is not easy and there's no need to put it down. It's a very effective martial art just like a lot of them out there. There's far more than 5 kicks, I'm white belt TKD and I know about 6 already. Maybe it's not a very good school they are enrolled in. It's worth checking out the club before you join and see if people are actually good black belts. And yes you will learn spinning kicks, especially if you do WTF taekwondo.
