ok, so i'm gonna grow my hair out into a mini fro(like 2 inches). The problem is, i can't stand my hair like that cuz it's mad nappy. So, i'm thinking about using some texturizer so i can get a curly look to it. I'm not saying jerry curl, but moist(not greasy) looking and easily manageable. My problem is that every time i have used the at home s-curl stuff i haven't got any good results. as a matter of fact, it looks exactly the same after i'm done using it. So, this time, i'm gonna go to a hair salon or barbershop to get it done and I was wondering what to ask for when i'm there. It's not a perm, is it? Is there any negative side effects to getting this done to my hair(going bald, chemical burn, etc.)

i appreciate your help ^_^

  1. Ok lets take this backwards. As a cosmetologist I keep it real with people. Yes there are side effects, but they take time to do bad damage and depend on how long you continue to get the procedure done. Chemical burns are real and are a definite worry, they occur when the stylist is not paying attention to the time and leaves the product on too long, and they also occur if the texturizer used is the wrong strength. Bald spots go hand in hand with the chemical burn, but with treatment the hair will grow back.

Next, a texturizer IS a relaxer. It is relaxer that is combed through the hair instead of smoothed, to release the natural curl and produce a wave or looser curls.

Should you go through with it, then please take care of your hair. Use the right maintenance products and sleep with a wave cap or a plastic shower cap on at night, if you don't you will dry out the hair and cause breakage.

Ok there is the truth laid out for you. Good luck.
