I have a computer fan.. but the end plug is to be plugged into the motherboard only.. If I wanted to strip the plug and just connect it to a battery then what wire would i be placing on what charges?

The powers are positive and negative charge.. The wires are black,red, white.. I don't know what the whites for though.. my guess is fan speed.. but that won't matter.. all that i need to know is the answer for black and red wires.

Thanks.

  1. You can't harm the fan by connecting red (+) black(-) either way to a battery. Only the rotation will change.

    To hook up correctly though Red wire goes to battery (+)

    Black wire goes to battery (-) for proper rotation of fan.

  2. red is power ,,black is negative or ground

  3. black is ground

    red is +5v

    white is sense - tells the main board what the fan is doing

    (yellow is +12v)

  4. Red=(+)

    Black=(-)

    White=fan speed(do not connect it)

    Usually the Pc fans works at 12V and are brushless that means that they have an electronic switching device for power the coils.Don't switch the polarity because you can burn the fan.

    Pc fans have only one sense!
