i want to hire a company to hot black oxide a mild steel piece, and when i looked at their's and other's metal or alloy requirements i didn't see anything on mild steel, only stainless and "plain"

so i wana know if "mild steel" has it's own set of alloys, is called somthing else (like low carbon), and most importantly if it can be black oxided ( not just blued!)

  1. black oxide is like a cotrolled rust.  it will work on mild steel assuming you don't have a coating like zinc or something else on it.  Even the coatings can be stripped before the process.  Mild steel can be call, CRS (cold rolled steel) plain, HRS (hot rolled steel), and others.
