Question:

Black people, is this a stereotype?

Okay, I've been seeing on TV shows overweight black women. The thing is, they're big, black, and beautiful. They own it and know how to work their size. And if I do happen to see one in real life, they too seem this way. They're so confident and they're know they're big, black, and beautiful. (yeah, kinda envious here)

Is this just a stereotype on TV? How are you raised? In Asian families, dude, if you're fat, it's ova! haha especially if you're a girl...

  1. Just because you are fat, black and confident does not make it a beautiful THING... whatever the fck that's supposed to mean.

Being fat and too lazy to lose weight or too undisciplined to eat properly is not a virtue to any race or person.

  2. It depends upon the society. The guy commented said that it's common for black women to be overweight. Maybe in the North American society, but not as much in the Caribbean. Either way, I've seen some big beautiful girls (I'm Jamaican) who know how to "work it" as you say :D

  3. Well, that's true! A lot of Black women are proud to be overweight, obesity is common in the Black community. However, I applaud them for having the confidence, instead of sitting in a corner afraid to show their face in society.

  4. Some of my family members are on the larger side (but they are GORGEOUS too), and they eat healthy foods and exercise. That's why I believe SOME obesity is due to genetics (that does not give anyone an excuse, though). They feel proud of the way they look because they keep themselves up and try to take care of themselves. I feel if you are taking care of yourself, but are still large, you have every right to be proud.

Me myself, I tend to obsess over my weight really badly. It gets kinda crazy sometimes lol. I try not to eat over 1400 calories a day and I exercise.

  5. Not all the time.  Black women who happen to be big, are most of the time actively trying to lose weight. Some of us really don't like how we look (as far as weight goes); but you'd never know it, hey nobody said that our self esteem had to be low during the process.

  6. As a black women, I used to be 325 pounds due to unhealthy eating, stress....I was really an emotional eater. Like many black kids I grew up with no father...in general I over ate because of an loser and it still gets to me today...a lot. I was never proud and yes I faked my happy feelings like all other races of fat women do. WE FAKE IT, it doesn't make sense to be all sad and doopy all day. Not one black women is proud to be obese and ignore these losers PLEASE. I only hang around black women....yes am straight but black guys have one thing on there mind if you hang out with them. Now I am 5'10 and 127 pounds : )

But no one is proud and its a culture thing to be in shape and curvy like those S****y video girls...not obese.

Also the poster below me is waaay off but then again you can she was never fat. Its called faking it I guess people rather would have us be sad in public too.

Also its been proven in studies and a duh moment blacks are more likely to by bad foods because its cheap. Even thin black females are at risk of getting a heart attack without knowing it because of eatting habits,

But yes its a huge sterotype, and this is coming from a former fat person too....really it is. But don't you also see and read stories how white, asian , hispanic women admit to feeling horrible inside but fake it on the outside.....its not a black women thing. Plus there are  alot of gross fat men too.

And to the poster below again black men date ANYTHING and when they do date she is always fat....so don't go there!

  7. Being overweight is not healthy. period. shame on them,

  8. The ones in reallife have no concern for health or the torture being imposed on others' eyes; fat is not beautiful. obesity is gross. Yet they are proud of it, with no reason to be.

  9. a lot of blakc women are proud to of what they look like, its a cultural thing amoung black people  you know being happy with the cards you are dealt, (dark skin, kinky hair, light skin curly hair..etc)

but many black women are obsessed with losing weight

Its really al about being happy with you because in the end you are all you have

  10. Bigger bone means to be big, but not equal to fat.

Anyway, being Asian, I was born thin, yet, we don't take slimness for granted. For the sake of my health, I eat very healthy but not starve myself.  I always maintain 100 lbs in 5'3", size 4. also because I have smaller bone structure make me light, but not really thin.

I am very disciplined in my eating habit, except I do like chocolate and ice creams but eat them carefully. Because of the good eating habit and the healthy organic food, I have very soft and delicate skin, very clean facial complexion and I never feel hungry.

Being slim has all the benefit from health to appearance. You won't go wrong to be slim, but need some disciplines and determinations.

  11. I think it may be a stereotype for some, but for myself, I'm full figured and very happy. I'm not lazy by any means. I'm a Navy Veteran who was wounded and I've had 3 back surgeries as a result of this, but I can still run 3-4 miles daily, and swim 5 days a week.  I was very skinny once upon a time, but due to steroids for my condition prescribed by my doctor, I gained weight. Everyone is not meant to be skinny. You have to look at the bone structure, and this goes across ethnic lines.

  12. It is a stereotype. Not all of them are proud of being overweight. I have dated black plus size women before and they tend to be more confident because they don't have that pressure of being paper thin from their families. I think I can speak for some black men when I say most of them want a women with some meat on her bones. I'm talking about sizes 8 to 20. I know I like thicker women I would never date a skinny women (0-10) Black and latina women tend to have more curves (wide hips etc) which is very s**y. My ex girlfriend said "this is who I am, like it or turn your head when I walk by".

  13. My friend is black and thin and told me its sad how America either put very fat black women, loud, ghetto, or super light.

The above poster is lying not one black women have I heard nor my moms friend who has been losing weight said they are proud. Fat exists in every race. Many of them fake it and act proud....really they are not happy.

Cool two racist people gave me two thumbs down. I used to be over and close to 400 pounds but since am white I guess it doesn't count to me based on these answers!

  14. I disagree,I think that is an excuse to be overweight.

  15. It's not a stereotype it's a fact! In my family there is not one thin woman, in my town I can count the number of thin black women I've seen this month on one hand.

    Why downvote my honest opinion?

I met one black girl so big I swear she had an orbit. I had to crwal away G!

  16. It kind of explains why Black guys are into white chicks, asian girls, and latinas...l
