Black people getting attacked by sharks?

Even though I want to know a racially dependent question I don't want any rants about racism or anything like that.

I love every race in the world.

I hate nobody based on race or culture. If I hate you I hate you personally!

Now on to my question.I have $50 riding on this bet! I have a friend who's Black also, who says that I can't find any proof that Black people have been attacked by sharks. Not because sharks are racist themselves, but that white people just keep on swimming even though they know sharks are in the water.

So I have to find proof on the internet that AT LEAST one Black person has been attacked by a shark after slavery. A picture would be nice or like a link to a website that has one.

  1. Idk if there is any proof but it is kinda funny how i randomly stumbled upon this, so anyway i have never heard of a black person getting attacked

  2. Try this. There could still be a dispute.  In the caption beneath the graph it says:

"These graphs indicate that white/Caucasian divers are attacked more often than other races since the 1950s, while black/******* divers are attacked more often than other races before the 1950s. This is a reflection of social differences among races. Just as a side note, all the accounts we have before the 1950s of ******* victims who were diving while they were attacked take place in Australia. These divers were all allegedly free diving with no gear, or participating in some subsurface or diving activity that was not specified. Since the 1950s, diving has become a popular recreational sport, particularly among the Caucasian community."

You may still have a dispute over N e g r o i d Australians vs Africans or their descendents.

  3. The woman that was killed a couple years ago in California was black.  Did not matter though, she was wearing a black wet suit.  So for all practicle purpose she could have been pink, or any color.

  4. not to mention the countless unreported african (aborigonie depending on definition of 'black') fishermen that don't return home from a trip..

so the racist part of this question, being that white people are too stupid to stay out of the water with sharks ''everywhere''

out of the billion or people that enter the water at least once yearly only 40 or so are attacked of them only 1-2 will die

so the odds of dying in a shark atack are litterally 1 in a billion.. a very calculated and safe 'risk'

  5. wow i looked everywhere on the net and didn't find anything..but that is a question i have always wondered my self...

    Good Luck on the bet

  6. A very good question .I remember reading when I was a kid about polynesian pearl divers who put some black dye on the inside of their hands for camouflage.A black persons hand is always lighter on the inside. Who knows may be the shark has trouble seeing black or at least dark colors.

  7. this is the funniest and most interesting question i have read all day

cant wait to read the replies hahaha

  8. Interesting question!  When I first searched for it I came upon this fake news article meant to be humorous, but I'm sure there are people who would be highly offended (just so you're warned before you read it!)

Here are some real statistics though (for great white shark attacks only - I didn't find any data for other species of sharks though I'm sure it exists).  So, it appears that there have been attacks on blacks - but still the overwhelming majority of attacks are on whites (they attribute it to white people utilizing the ocean for recreation more than other races).  And it doesn't list the years of the attacks - so I don't know if it post-slavery or not.  Here is the link:

There are also stats based on the gear and clothing colors, where most attacks occurred on people with black wetsuits (although that probably has to do with the fact that the majority of gear and wetsuits have black - not that the sharks are actually choosing a color) http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/scu...

If you only need one instance - do some research on Achmat Hassiem.  He was a lifeguard that lost his foot to a shark but survived.  He is considered a hero because he purposely drew the shark's attention away from his brother.  To be honest, that's all I remember from the story - I think he may be black (but it is not something I noted in my memory, so I am not sure.)  But, hopefully, that will help you win your bet!
