They were freed because of the Civil War, which put an end to slavery.  And a good thing too.  Slavery is an abomination.

You need to do your own studying.

I know you have a library so why not go to one of them and pick out books and then read them? Then you don't have to ask in such a venue you would have the answers!!

The Blacks and all slaves because there were still White slaves and Native American Slaves were freed in the Emancipation Proclamation, Mr. Lincoln gave that speech, however all slaves were actually freed when the South was defeated.

Then came the hardest part, living and existing as a person who had no real legal reality.

its why the civil war was fought... it was basically an economic thing.. not a humanitarian thing.  im not sure but i was told that the south was making too much money from free labor and that caused tension between the north and south...

but i may need to do a little homework myself.....
