Hello, we try and keep our Guinea pigs and Skinny pigs clean (once week) but I noticed there are a bunch of little fruit fly type bugs flying around and its driving me nuts so I could imagine it is driving the guinea pigs nuts too.

What are these bugs and how can I kill them without killing my guniea pigs?

  1. Clean the cage get new beddign and spray the cage down with a hose do a FULL cleaning cage!♥

  2. i have that same problem!

my friend said that they may be fleas, but they look a lot like fruit flies so i dont know...

i just completely vacuumed the room that they were in and sprayed it down with lysol. also you should completely clean the cage

  3. They probably are fruit flies. My husband used to have sugar gliders (don't ask) and if he didn't clean that cage nearly everyday the fruit flies would invade. So you should definitely start cleaning it more often. But you can kill the fruit flies by making a little trap and put it near the cage. Fill a wineglass half full of tap water, put some apple cider vinegar in there, and squeeze in a little liquid dish soap (the kind you use at the sink, not what you use in the dishwasher). The apple cider will attract them, then when they fly into the water the dish soap makes it hard for them to move their legs to swim the to the side and try and get out so after a matter of seconds they drown.

  4. start cleaning twice a week instead of once. And never leave any old food overnight. You can buy those sticky fly traps and put them around the cage, but not actually near enough to the guinea pigs can get them.
