Question:

Blackberries over the Canadian border?

I am going to be driving into Canada tomorrow and I want to bring my friend some of my wild blackberries from my yard here in the US. If I declare them when I cross the border will they be confiscated? They are just regular old blackberries that grow wild in my back yard.

Thanx

  1. unfortunately, since blackberries also grow in Canada commerically chances are they wont let them in for fear of disease transmission.   Uusally thats the deciding factor.. tropical fruits no issue as wont affect agriculture here but fruits that grow in temperate climates generally a no no.

  2. Yes they will. You cannot take any fruit or veggie across the border - not even grown in Canada apples - or Florida grown oranges if you are going the other way.

  3. I shouldn't think they'd be allowed unless they were professionally packaged.

  4. It is very likely that they are going to be confiscated.  Technically, you are not permitted to bring fruits or vegetables acorss the border.  However, some Border Guards will look the other way.  Sometimes they let us bring apples across, and sometimes they make us throw them out.
