Blackberry Messenger Help!?

Question

Ok, so I just got my Blackberry Pearl- and im fairly new to it. So far I've figured out how to find my pin, and to "attempt" to add people. Ive already added 2 pins- and my friend added me too (were both lost with the blackberry's so yeah lol) and I still havent got her request or w.e- so both the pins are "pending". Am I doing something wrong ? I went to Add a Contact ¬ [Use Once]¬ & when It asks for a pin, I added her pin , and still nothing..helpp?

Do you all have the BlackBerry data plans on your accounts? Without it you won't be able to use the BlackBerry Messenger.
