is there anyway to assign different text message tones for different people. I can't find a way but surely there would be....

Yes, go into profiles and create a new profile. Name it whatever your friends name is.

Then go into that new profile and edit it to change the SMS tone.

Then in your "active" profile, make a new exception. You will need to name the exception (whatever you want) and then select who it applies to. Once you do that, you can indicate what profile to use for that person. Select the new profile you created.

It's cumbersome, but that's the only way to do it.
