Blackberry data services

I just got a blackberry pearl, but i did not want to pay for the internet/email etc. Since i am just using it as a regular phone, should i turn off the "data services" network? the mobile network is at&t... but what is the data network??

  2. If you are not using the data services network, it is a good idea to turn it off on a blackberry because it will run extra power being on and since you are not using that network there is no point in using that extra power. That is what my blackberry manual suggested.

    It shouldn't effect texting, but if you use that, then you should test it after turning it off just in case. I have been able to text when my data service was down, so it shouldn't effect anything else to turn the data network off.

    It'll also keep from external sources downloading stuff onto your phone, it'll make it loads more secure.
